| 1) REGULAR CALLS FOR ARTICLES AND ART Coastalfields regularly calls and pays for articles and art (especially photography and other visual arts) in the subjects of - the sciences and general science (especially agriculture, anthropology, biology, ecology and equine sciences) - the arts (especially performance, non-performance and architectural), - business (especially economics and marketing) - history (including biographies) - fiction - linguistics - mathematics - philosophy/theology - physics - travel/geography * Studies in the species and individuals that help bring Coastalfields' farm produce to the consumer are especially encouraged (Coastalfields' growing process is a cooperative process undertaken by many individuals of many species). Contributors to the CNews will be paid for their article, illustration or photograph - if it is accepted: their submission must be reviewed by the Directors of Coastalfields, and may additionally be reviewed by any of the following: experts in the field, local teachers and professors, and by a panel of peers (classmates - only if the author is a student - and, regardless of student status, a group of authors who have written on a similar subject that have been previously published). 2) RECIPE CONTEST Coastalfields also calls regularly for recipes or serving suggestions for Coastalfields produce. Prizes are given every year! Submit by February 1. No limit to the number of entries. Entries, regardless of prize status, may be reproduced in the Coastalfields Cookbook. First Prize: $25 Gift Certificate to Coastalfields and Clin d'Oeil Second Prize: $10 Gift Certificate to Coastalfields or Clin d'Oeil Third Prize: Free produce to make your recipe RECIPE CONTEST RULES AND SCORING: 1. Recipes must be vegetarian. This means no blood, no meat. No ingredient that may have had or has blood (i.e. beef, poultry, fish, lamb, etc.) Eggs and dairy are acceptable (neither have blood in them). 2. NO artificial preservatives. Contact Coastalfields if you are concerned that your food might have an artificial preservative, and we'll help you come up with an alternative solution. We first assign your recipe a score of 1 to 3. You get 1 point if it is easy enough for either a child with no experience to make or a time-crunched parent to make in less than 2 hours with ingredients commonly on hand. You get 1 point if it tastes good to our judges (the workers at Coastalfields, selected friends and family of workers at Coastalfields and at least one professional chef). And, you get 1 point if you can safely eat the food more than once per day while meeting and/or not exceeding (as applicable**) your RDA's. The more ingredients in your recipe that you can buy from Coastalfields, the higher your score: we multiply your initial score by the number of items you can get from Coastalfields. **Some food RDA's are, generally speaking, maximums (i.e. sodium), others are, generally, minimums (i.e. vitamin A). Contact Coastalfields if you have questions. 3) SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND DIRECTIONS AMATEUR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE WELCOME. Amateur contributions from elementary, middle and high school students are especially encouraged to encourage new ideas, new thoughts, new perspectives and to induce the invogoration of the learning community that is necessary for the progress of civilization. Coastalfields will, from time to time, require large-scale or specific research or development to improve Coastalfields' operations. Grants will be announced through the News. If you wish to be personally notified by email, please contact Coastalfields. Contributions are accepted by - email, in MICROSOFT WORD format: directors@coastalfields.com, with the subject line: "Submission to Coastalfields Cultural News," or "Submission to the Coastalfields Press." - by pick-up during delivery of the Coastalfields Cultural News or Coastalfields products: call to schedule pick-up in advance, (720) 207-3642 - by mail, to: Coastalfields 10120 W 59th Ave, #201 Arvada, CO 80004 4) STANDARDS FOR ART AND SCIENCE CONTRIBUTIONS Art*** contributions will conform to the following standards: - Art will be accompanied by a written explanation of the work. In the explanation, the title will be introduced and explained, the purpose of the work will be explained (no purposeless work will be accepted: the art must improve or demonstrate the technique of the medium, and/or improve or demonstrate the technical skill of the artist, and/or present thoughts and emotions to the audience with intention), previous works that the artist relied upon in the construction of their contribution (whether artistic or otherwise, whether of the artist's own work or of others) must be cited and their connection to the contribution must be explained, and an explanation of how the artist's choice of medium and technique was influenced by and influenced the contribution. Explanations less than 25 words and greater than 2000 words will be accepted with prior approval (request for approval may be submitted simultaneous to the contribution). - Art will contribute to the progress and process of civilization. - Art need not strive to be new because art honors nature (and nothing in nature is truly new): Coastalfields conforms to Blaise Pascal's "Thoughts on Mind and Style," when he explains that art honors nature, and "those honor nature well, who teach that she can speak on everything, even on theology...words differently arranged have a different meaning, and meanings differently arranged have different effects," that "when we play tennis, we both play wth the same ball, but one of us places it better." -Copyright protection ensures that the contribution remains the property of the contributor. ***The following are artistic contributions: unapplied science, performance art, non-performance art, architecture, history, fiction, linguistics, and travel/geography. Scientific**** contributions will conform to the following standard: - The observation or inquiry will be structured to facilitate educated learning: the subject will be introduced along with previous observations, inquiries and lessons. Then, the contributor's specific observations and inquries, thoughts and emotions will be presented with reason and logic to demonstrate their genesis and evolution: the contributor will include evidence gained by trials and experiments along with instructions so that they may be undertaken by someone else. The contributor will be expected to demonstrate their experience and bias and other authority on the subject before concluding their contribution. Copyright protection will ensure the author retains ownership of the discovery and observation, contributions remain the property of the contributor. ****The following are scientific contributions: applied science, business, mathematics, philosophy/theology and physics. |
