| ABOUT ORGANICS |
| Question: Why isn't Coastalfields Organic? Because we'd be encouraged and required to use herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, traps, poisons, hormones, antibiotics and all kinds of management practices that do not secure the long-term interests of the land, the ecology, our customers and our business, that are cruel to animals and that are dangerous to human health. We choose to not be Organic because the requirements of being "Organic" conflicts with our ethics, our basic business interests and the interests of our customers and nation. Question: What is Organic Agriculture? Organic Agriculture is defined and regulated by the USDA, and is allowed, encouraged and required to use many of the same dangerous herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, traps, poisons, hormones, and antibiotics that conventional agriculture is allowed to. "Organic," for whatever it was originally intended to mean, has come to mean something else. Whether you are a farmer or a consumer, we advise you to familiarize yourself with the laws of your Democratic Republic (as we have) to not only protect your interests as a consumer or business owner, but to improve your ability as a citizen to obey and influence the laws of your government. Question: Is Organic good for the environment? Organic Agriculture is neither healthier for the public's consumption, or of a higher food quality. Organic Agriculture is not better for the land nor for society: in fact, quite the opposite, Organic Agriculture can - and does - destroy the land through mismanagement of resources, and poisons people and wildlife through the use of harmful and toxic materials. Organic Agriculture is NOT good for the environment. Question: Why is Organic dangerous to the consumer? Organic Agriculture is allowed, encouraged and required to use herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer. Organic agriculture is allowed and encouraged to use hormones and antibiotics. In Organic Agriculture, hormones and antibiotics are even used on plants! Besides the uncertainty of the testing process (which is disclosed by the FDA and USDA in the scientific analysis of any product they approve) betraying the specific threat individual products pose to humanity, there is no safe way to use any herbicide, pesticide or fertilizer. These chemicals destroy the environment (and resources - especially water) that humanity relies upon. The antibiotics are especially objectionable, as they encourage the microorganisms to which they are applied to develop resistance to the anitbiotics required for HUMAN medicine. The potential danger of an antibiotic - resistant pandemic is alarming. Question: Is Organic cruel to animals? Yes, Organic Agriculture is cruel to animals, especially wildlife! Any system that requires the killing of other creatures may be considered cruel, but a system that allows the killing of other creatures to be undertaken in the most painful, least merciful methods available is certainly cruel. Organic means being able to use poisons that are designed to act slowly over a creature's lifetime (with the purpose of crippling or maiming the creature), agents that would not be tolerated in human warfare (one - of many - will liquify an insect from the inside out), and agents that are designed to cause a creature enough pain to distract them from reproduction. Question: should I support non-Organic farms? What can I do? If you care for your planet, do not support any farm or ranch whose methods you are not familiar with. Do not trust the USDA's "Organic" certification to secure your food's safety or your environmental well-being. Grow your own food. If you can not or do not want to grow your own food, question your food providers and hold them to the high standard that should be demanded of them. Coastalfields uses NO herbicide (not even pulling weeds by hand), NO pesticide (not even swatting mosquitoes), NO fertilizers (not even poop), NO antibiotics, NO hormons, NO traps, NO poisons. We encourage you to supervise our growing methods to ensure they meet your high standards by taking a free farm tour or by otherwise learning about our farming methods by taking advantage of our free educational events. We encourage you to read the full text of the Organic Act, and the Final Rule on the Organic Act, "Organic Lies" by Mary Choate (available for free online download from the Coastalfields Press) and if you have further questions to contact Coastalfields. |
